Commercial painting in Grand Rapids, MI was completed by H&H Painting Co. for the Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids, a state-of-the-art facility serving those who served our country. This multi-month project transformed four neighborhood buildings and a 33,000-square-foot community center, creating a welcoming environment for 128 veteran residents across 90 acres of property near the Grand River.
Background/Story
The Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids represents more than just a buildingโit’s a commitment to our veterans. Established in 1885 to serve Civil War veterans, the property underwent a complete renovation to build a new home designed for today’s heroes. H&H Painting Co. was honored to contribute to this mission-driven project in 2019.
The facility features four neighborhood buildings, each spanning more than 29,000 square feet and accommodating 32 members with private bedrooms and bathrooms. Shared kitchens, dining facilities, and living spaces create a true home-like atmosphere. The 33,000-square-foot community center houses administrative offices, therapy spaces, a multi-faith prayer room, cafรฉ and bistro, barbershop, beauty parlor, and gathering spaces for the full membership and community.
All buildings connect via heated and air-conditioned corridors, allowing residents to move freely between neighborhoods and the community center while remaining indoorsโa critical design element for Michigan winters. The Home provides long-term and short-term care, rehabilitation and therapy, dementia and memory care, and palliative care, along with an advanced psychiatric program, in-house pharmacy, pastoral care, and specialty clinics.
