But this wasn’t just any painting project. It was a mission-driven makeover of a massive 118,000 sq. ft. facility, revamped to meet strict FDA standards for food storage.

Even more meaningful? The building now helps power Feeding America’s fight against hunger across the state.

Back in September 2022, one of our long-time partners reached out with an exciting opportunity: a pilot program with Feeding America. They had just acquired a 118,000-square-foot warehouse and needed help transforming it into a certified FDA food storage facility.

From the get-go, we worked hand-in-hand with the owner, the architect, and a blasting crew to map out the project scope, budget, and timeline. The first challenge? Removing all the cellulose insulation from the decking.

By January 2023, we were greenlit to paint the entire deck. Meanwhile, plans for new office spaces and production areas were taking shape. That’s when Feeding America and the architect invited us to join the design team, helping guide the project from 60% design drawings all the way to the final bid package. Our input helped streamline costs and enhance features like epoxy walkways and safety striping.

Fast forward to 2024, and we were awarded the full fit-out. We painted 28,000 square feet of new office space and refreshed every inch of the existing interior and exterior walls.

Highlights included vibrant exterior graphics, sleek epoxy flooring, and beautifully stained wood paneling.

We leaned on tried-and-true products from Sherwin-Williams and more:

Over the course of nine months, with a dedicated 12-person rotating crew, the transformation took shape. Today, the space doesn’t just look good—it works hard. Bold exterior graphics grab your attention, epoxy-coated walkways offer durability and safety, and warm wood finishes add a welcoming touch.

But what makes this project truly special isn’t just the craftsmanship. It’s the cause. With food insecurity hitting a 40-year high, helping create a hub for Feeding America felt like more than a job. It was a chance to make a real impact.

This project is a standout candidate for an APC top job—not just because of the work we did, but because of the incredible story behind it and the real impact it’s making across Michigan. We’ve always loved teaming up with clients, both new and familiar, especially when it’s for a good cause.

Now, for the first time in 15 years, all West Michigan branch employees are under one roof—something that’s long overdue. The new space has doubled their operational capacity, serving both the west side of the state and the entire Upper Peninsula—40 counties in total.

Partnering with Feeding America has been nothing short of inspiring. With 98% of donations funneled directly into programs and services—and just 0.3% going to overhead—it’s hard to imagine a more impactful organization. At a time when food insecurity is at a 40-year high, we’re honored to have played even a small part in helping meet that need.
